“I first met Nic in 2012, my sixth form year at Hamilton Boys’ High School. At the time I was involved in the rowing programme but was having issues with maintaining bodyweight, which was negatively affecting my health and performance in the sport. The Director of Rowing at HBHS suggested that Nic would be someone who could help me rebuild my strength and improve my ability in the boat. The knowledge that he was the S&C coach of the All Blacks made me feel slightly intimidated, however upon meeting Nic I quickly realised he was extremely passionate about sport and his job and was eager to get me back on track and achieving my goals.

Nic provided me with a nutrition plan as well as a comprehensive weights programme. Regular email contact and a one-on-one meeting every four weeks, allowed Nic to review my progress and make adjustments where necessary. He spent a session in the rowing club gym with me, ensuring my technique was providing the greatest benefit while preventing any injury. His experience and extensive knowledge of what he was teaching me completely changed my approach to training, recovery and the way I fueled my body. Over the following months my bodyweight steadily increased and with it came significant improvements in my strength and power in the rowing boat.

Since meeting Nic, I have come a relatively long way from where I was back in 2012. Over the last few years I have represented New Zealand in World Rowing regattas at Junior, Under-23 and Elite level. Much of this I can say honestly wouldn’t have happened had it not been for the way Nic approached my situation. His belief in my ability, and the way he took time out of his busy schedule to support me in achieving my goals, gave me huge confidence, and showed what a professional and all round top guy Nic is.”
